Video Competition

Brought to you by the Women in Sensors Engineering (WiSe)

Artificial Intelligence with Biosensors and Biosensing – Opportunity and Implications

Eligibility: Any student, registered at the time of submission in a BSc, MSc or PhD programme, anywhere in the world can submit. You do not need to be an IEEE member or registered for the IEEE Biosensors 2024 conference to enter this video competition. Entries are welcome from both individuals and groups.

Team contributions are also welcome!

Call for entries: We are seeking 3 minute videos from students around the world researching and studying Biosensors and Biosensing. The competition topic is Artificial Intelligence with Biosensors and Biosensing – Opportunity and Implications.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows “computers and machines to simulate human intelligence and problem-solving capabilities”.

Entries can follow the model of the globally acclaimed 3 Minute Thesis. We welcome examples of how AI is put in practice around the world, in any lab and within any research theme associated with biosensors such as devices, systems or sub-systems, and data processing from biosensors. Reflective examples of challenges or things going wrong in the use of AI are particularly welcome and so are examples of best practices. We encourage entries presented creatively, including through the production of poems or visual artwork, exhibited through the video medium.

Requirements: Form submission and video upload.

Notes: Notes: To generate the video, we recommend using a video conferencing tool, such as Zoom or MS Teams. There are plenty of webpages and how-to videos on using Zoom in this way available on the web. It is preferred that your face is visible during the recording where possible.

Key dates: The winners will be announced in a WiSe session to be held in Cambridge on 29th July.

Judging criteria: The entries will be judged based on the following:

  • Understanding of the background and significance of the use of AI for biosensors and biosensing.
  • Clear description of how AI has been/ can be used within biosensors and biosensing, including outcomes and conclusions.
  • Consideration as to the wider implications (both positive and negative) for the use of AI within the field.
  • Originality, clarity, and logical sequence of the video.

Prizes: There will be three prizes. The winning video entries will be played in the WiSe session on 29th July and hosted on IEEE Sensors YouTube channel. In addition, we will have a “public choice award”, open to all conference participants, during the conference; the awarded video in this category will be also hosted on the channel above, post conference. All winners will receive a certificate that will include their information and all the logos (IEEE, Sensors Council, WiSe, etc..).

We look forward to receiving your entries!
